Route Media is supporting Guide Dogs Cymru by showing the charity’s latest fostering campaign on their popular screens in key locations across Wales including Westgate Street and North Road in Cardiff.

Guide Dogs started in 1931 and has since become the world’s largest breeder and trainer of working dogs, transforming the lives of over 36,000 people. As the Lord Mayor of Cardiff’s chosen charity for 2022-2023, the Guide Dogs Cymru team provides life-changing mobility services to adults, children and young people with sight loss throughout Wales.

The Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Cllr Graham Hinchey, said: “My wife Anne and I have fostered more than 20 trainee guide dogs over a decade, so we know first-hand what a key role this is. Volunteer fosterers give the young dogs a loving and secure home as they develop their skills and become life-changers. I was delighted to put Guide Dogs Cymru in touch with Route Media and hope this innovative advertising campaign will prompt a flood of volunteer applications from dog lovers in the Cardiff area.”

The campaign ran across Route’s network of screens across south Wales including Cardiff, Newport, Pontypridd, Tonypandy and Pontyclun, promoting their fostering scheme for trainee puppies.

Guide Dogs Cymru Marketing and Communications Manager, Deborah Rees, said, “We need to recruit more foster families that will provide temporary, loving homes for our young dogs. Each dog attends training school during the working day, returning home to their foster family in the evening and at weekends. Guide Dogs also pays all expenses for the dog, including food and veterinary costs, so this is an ideal role for working people.”

Route Media Head of Marketing, Kylie Glassar, added: “We recognise how important Guide Dogs Cymru is in transforming thousands of people’s lives and we wanted to do what we could to help. We’re so pleased we could showcase the amazing work that the team have been doing and hope that this will encourage more people to sign up to volunteer.”
